SDG&E “smART Meter” Project

The “smART meter” program, presented by SDG&E, is designed to teach the community about the importance of inter-relatedness of recycling and energy conservation. Over the past few months, students across the county have been “repurposing” old SDG&E power meters by turning them into unique art pieces by using an assortment of recycled materials! While they create their one-of-a-kind projects, students learn about ways to recycle and conserve energy at home!

At the end of our chapter leader meeting, you’ll have an opportunity to stay and create your own smART Meter project, while learning how to implement this fun and easy project at your own chapter site!

If you plan to participate, please start collecting fun recycled materials to bring along (bottle caps, buttons, tissue paper, old toys, ribbon, old fabric, etc.).

Training For New Chapter Leaders – Running A Chapter 101

This is a perfect chance for new leaders to learn the process of starting and running a chapter step-by-step. Learn helpful tips and resources on recruitment, project creation, finding projects on the Kids Korps Calendar, keeping students motivated, etc. We hope you will join us!

The Secret SANTA (Support And Nurture Those Americans who serve) program focuses upon junior enlisted military families with children who are the ranks of E-5 and below. These families have  provided the Armed Services YMCA a wish list which is then assigned to a donor family, organization, or business so they can shop, wrap, and personalize gifts. Gratefully, 911 military families were served through this program in December 2007.

After the shopping has been completed, the gifts are delivered to the Armed Services YMCA office located on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton prior to December 16 for the military families to retrieve their gifts on December 17, 18, or 19. We welcome volunteer support during these three days as we have approximately 250 military families come in on each day.

One Earth Recycling Center Coming to a SHOPPING CENTER NEAR YOU! Kids Korps youth members will be doing their part in encouraging the use of the One Earth Recycling Kiosks.

Wednesday, December 17th from 4-7pm, 10% of all sales will go towards the Sage Canyon Chapter of Kids Korps USA to support the many holiday service projects and programs they are working on.

With so many people in need, Sage Canyon Kids Korps has adopted families from several different organizations, including the Military- as well as children from the Harbor Summit School, a school for homeless children in downtown San Diego.

Come out and help raise money for these wonderful programs, it will make wishes come true this holiday season!

Our next chapter meeting will be November 21st at the Polster Branch in Carmel Valley again. We are trying to find out if there is internet wifi there so that we may also do a 20 minute basic training on updating your own site. Check back soon! I will post the agenda here.
